There are two methods of saving in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, and both are pretty much up to modern standards.
No more going home to manually save, and no more lectures from Resetti if you fail to save your progress before turning the game off. Instead, there’s a built-in autosave feature, as well as the ability to manually save.
How to Tell if New Horizons is Auto Saving
Animal Crossing: New Horizons autosaves often. Keep an eye on the top right of the screen and you’ll see a blue save circle pop up eventually.
The blue circle indicates the game has auto-saved, and if you’re so inclined you can turn it off or press the Home button give a family member a swing at it.
How to Save in New Horizons
Sometimes you’re going to want to manually save your game. Heck, probably every time you want to quit. Luckily there’s a way to do that, too.
In order to manually save in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, all you need to do is press the minus button and choose the option to save and end the game.
Once you do this, your progress will be saved and you’ll be taken back to the main menu. This is more familiar to Animal Crossing fans, and probably the less save stress-inducing option of the two.
The bonus to all of this is that it’s very hard to lose progress in New Horizons, and no longer with Resetti tear you a new one should you fail to save. That’s a win-win.
